Registan, Bibi-Khanym and Siab Bazaar

A short walk along pedestrian Tashkent Street: from the three madrasas of the Registan to Timur's great mosque and the city bazaar beside it. About 1 km; start each story yourself.

  1. Registan Square
The Registan is an open square in Samarkand's old city. Three madrasas stand on three of its sides: Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor and Tilya-Kori.
  2. Bibi-Khanym Mosque
Timur ordered work to begin on Samarkand's great congregational mosque on 7 May 1399, after he returned from his campaign in India. It was then the largest mosque in Central Asia.
  3. Siab Bazaar
Siab Bazaar stands right next to the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, where Tashkent Street meets Shakhi-Zinda Street.
